Ack, I linked to your post about making a syllabus a few weeks ago, but forgot to do so again today. Everyone: go see Kara's newsletter about how a syllabus can be so valuable to learn new things! https://brassringdaily.substack.com/p/stealing-the-syllabus

Love this! Check out historian Cynthia Prescott's work on pioneer monuments, too, including website: https://pioneermonuments.net/about-us/ and book: https://www.oupress.com/9780806161976/. Also see The Scout while you're in KC! https://kcparks.org/places/the-scout/ So excited to talk with you while you're here. :)

I love Cynthia's book! I read it last year and interviewed her for a piece about monuments. And I will definitely check out the statue! Bringing my nice lenses...

Love this somewhat transgressive incredibly transparent look into your next new project!! And love your syllabus approach. So many times in my life i would have benefitted from that, what a great way to embrace the learning process.

It goes against so many of my instincts as a journalist to share what I’m doing before I get going. But honestly? If someone stole the idea I’d know. And there’s plenty of entryways into this topic. It’s so much more fun to have people invested in the process! Also, definitely see Kara Cutruzzula’s piece about working with a syllabus! https://qz.com/achieve-your-goals-by-using-a-syllabus-1850785314
